The key is to devise a system to access the cards, tokens and minis for each expansions (I love organizing!).
As a 'Tolkien nut' it's probably worth picking up 'War of the Ring' anyway even if you will only ever just look at the map/cards/figures and push the pieces around solo playing as both sides. I'm pretty sure there is a procedural solo-bot that someone posted to BGG somewhere that lets you play as the Fellowship against a pseudo AI.
